Reflecting on 2022 there were a number of milestone events to celebrate at FIRMA Engineering, not least the live deployment of our FIRMArm multi-role device inside a nuclear cell on the Sellafield site.
This deployment footage demonstrates the simultaneous acquisition of live video and gamma radiation data, giving Sellafield experts an insight into cell conditions to support the planning of Post Operational Clean Out (POCO). It gives an appreciation of what is possible when the right skills and collaborative partnerships are brought together supported by a relatively modest budget.
As we move towards the final stages of enhancing and certifying the FIRMArm over the next 18 months, a range of inspection and maintenance tasks will be made technically and commercially possible in the decommissioning space.
It has been a long and arduous path for a small business such as ourselves to gain the confidence of a long established, technically focused organisation with complexed needs such as Sellafield. A well-deserved pat on the back is surely due.
